Effects of Uncontrolled Moisture and Humidity on Garments

Moisture can damage garments in different ways.
  • It can make them uncomfortable
  • Cause them to shrink or become mouldy
  • Reduce the life of your clothes

When garments are processed and packed in a humid environment, where the air is warm and moist,
  • It absorbs moisture from the air and gets sealed inside the polythene packaging.
  • When the outside temperature of the container drops, garments get cooled, causing hygroscopic or moisture absorbing clothing to release water vapour.
  • This moisture condenses as the temperature of the shipping container and air inside polythene falls below the dew point of the air trapped within the plastic packaging.
